How to Change the Oil in a Honda NRX1800 Rune

Step 1. Run the engine for a minute to warm the oil, which helps it drain out faster.

Step 2. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick from the right side of the engine, which allows it to vent and the oil to drain out faster.

Step 3. Put a drain pan under the engine, then remove the 17mm drain bolt and crush washer from the front underside of the engine and let the oil drain out.

Step 4. Inspect the crush washer and replace it if necessary. Reinstall the drain bolt and crush washer, then torque them to 21 foot-pounds.

PRO TIP: The crush washer should be replaced after every three or four oil changes regardless of its condition to prevent leaks coming from the drain bolt.

Step 5. Keep the drain pan in place, then remove the oil filter from the front underside of the engine using a 65mm oil filter wrench.

Step 8. Reinstall the oil fill cap/dipstick, then start the engine and let it idle for half a minute to circulate the oil within the engine.

Step 9. Shut off the engine and let it sit for a minute to allow the oil to settle.

Step 10. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick and check the oil level by resting the dipstick on the crankcase threads without screwing it in. Top off the oil if necessary, then reinstall the oil fill cap/dipstick and you’re done.
