How to Adjust a Honda CBR600 Clutch Cable

The clutch cable on a Honda CBR 600 might be made of steel, but it still stretches over time. That stretching impacts your ability to engage the clutch on your Honda motorcycle

Watch the video above and follow the steps below to do a clutch cable adjustment on a Honda CBR600RR motorcycle.

NOTE: There's a fine adjustment behind the clutch lever on the left side of the handlebar. But that's only one side. When you've turned the fine adjustment all the way out, you can use the coarse adjustment to give you even more room to restore responsiveness to your clutch.

Step 1. Rotate the fine clutch adjustment wheel so that it's all the way in behind the clutch lever. To do this, turn the lock so that it screws up toward the adjustment wheel, which will create room to adjust the wheel down.

Step 2. Go around to the right side of the motorcycle and locate the end of the clutch cable at about a 1 o'clock position around the clutch cover. You'll see two 14mm nuts on either side of the clutch cable receiver. Loosen the 14mm nut on the left of the receiver and screw it in to the left.

Step 3. Use a pair of pliers to pull the cable to the right until you feel the cable bottom out at the top. You'll know you've found it when it feels like the cable won't travel any further to the left.

Step 4. Tighten the 14mm nut on the right so that it moves back to the receiver. Do the same with the nut on the left so that both nuts are flush on either side of the receiver.

Step 5. Go back to the left side of the motorcycle and the clutch lever, where the fine adjustment was moved all the way in. Adjust it out until you feel about half an inch of movement in the clutch lever between first engaging the clutch plates and a full clutch extension.

Step 6. Tighten down the locking wheel to the clutch lever and you're done.
