Yamaha Grizzly 700 Starting Problems Q&A

Got a Yamaha Grizzly 700 that starts and then cuts out? Or a Grizzly that shuts off while idling? If your YFM700 Grizzly is having starting problems, a variety of issues could be causing the problem.

Yamaha Grizzly 700 Starts Then Cuts Out

I have a 2007 Grizzly 700 that starts for a few seconds and cuts out. I left it over winter and when I tried to start it yesterday, it ran for a few minutes before dying. Fuel pump issues maybe?

John Talley: When you leave a machine sitting for a while, especially with the fuel quality being what it is in some parts of the country, it’ll just turn into maple syrup in there and just gum up the whole works. On the inside of course, yours has fuel injection, so it’s got a fuel pump. Before you go running out to replace it, go ahead and pull it and look at the filter on the bottom of it. Make sure that’s not clogging it up … It’s probably a fuel issue but it’s probably not the pump, but the fuel filter or the filter on the bottom of the pump. I believe that’s available separately, so go to Partzilla.com and take a look at the exploded diagrams and see if it’s available as a separate piece for the fuel system.

Yamaha Grizzly 700 Shuts Off While Idling

I have a 2013 Yamaha Grizzly 700 that shuts off while idling. Any suggestions on what’s going on with it?

John Talley: More than likely, because that’s a fuel-injected machine, it’s your throttle position sensor on there. Because it more or less is telling the ECU that your throttle is at this value, whatever that might be. So it might be an issue with that, maybe a connection. Could be the wiring. I know we did a test on our Grizzly. Maybe you can take a look at our video and see if that helps.
