Changing the Oil on a Suzuki TU250X

Step 1. Crank up the engine and run it for a couple of minutes to warm the oil.

Step 2. Turn off the engine, and remove the oil fill cap on the crankcase to allow the engine to breathe as it drains.

Step 3. Get a drain pan underneath the engine, and locate the drain bolt at the bottom of the crankcase. Remove the bolt using an 18mm socket.

NOTE: Don't lose the crush washer on the bolt.

Step 4. Remove the three 8mm bolts holding the oil filter cover, followed by the cover itself, as the engine oil drains.

NOTE: The oil filter cover is located just below the oil fill cap opening.

Step 5. Remove the oil filter after the engine oil has drained completely.

Step 6. Install the new oil filter

NOTE: There's a rubber grommet on one side of the filter, and that must be on the side of the filter facing into the engine. If you install the filter and the grommet is facing out, you've installed the filter the wrong way.

Step 7. Replace the oil filter cover, and tighten the three 8mm bolts holding it in place.

PRO TIP: There's not a torque specification here, so just tighten it nice and snug without overtightening.

Step 8. Replace the drain bolt.

NOTE: Make sure the crush washer is still on the bolt to avoid leaks, and don't overtighten it.

Step 9. Fill the engine with oil.

NOTE: Suzuki specifies that the TU250X takes 1.5 quarts of 10W40 oil.

Step 10. Replace the fill cap, and run the engine for a couple of minutes to circulate the oil. Next, stop the engine and check the oil level. Top off the oil if necessary.

NOTE: On our sight glass, we can see the level is right in the middle between low and full, so our TU250X is ready to ride.
