Should I Change My Dual Sport Bike Tire Tube?

After a certain amount of mileage, do you need to replace the tire tube on a motorcycle, dirt bike or dual sport, as well as the tire itself? Yes you should, and for several reasons, even if it's a pain to change it out.

Partzilla’s motorcycle expert John Talley hosts live Q&A sessions on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern. In this session, John was asked if it was OK to just change out the tire on a dual sport bike without changing out the tube after the bike clocked in a high amount of mileage.

I'm about to put on a new tire for a dual sport bike after 11,000km. Would you recommend changing the tube, or will the old tube be ok?

John Talley: I’ve never reused a tube, ever. After being thrown around in there for 11,000 miles or kilometers, when you pull it apart you’re going to see these little rubber tumbleweeds, if you will. And that’s the lining of the tire and the tube itself, that friction that’s been going on that’s starting to break it down. So I would go ahead and change it out. Tubes are cheap man. And as you’re about to find out, changing a tire tube is not a lot of fun. So be careful, take your time and don’t pinch it.
