How to Change the Oil in a Polaris RZR 900S

When it comes to maintenance tasks, perhaps none is more critical to the health of an engine than an oil change. For a Polaris UTV, an oil change is recommended after every 50 hours of use or every 1,000 miles.

Watch the video above and follow the steps below to do an engine oil change on a Polaris RZR 900S.

NOTE: You can buy the oil and oil filter separately, but it’s cheaper to buy the Polaris RZR oil change kit, which includes both the filter and the oil.

Step 1. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to warm up the oil, which makes it easier to drain.

Step 2. Remove both seats to reach the access panel to the oil filter and dipstick. On both the passenger and driver seats, there’s a lever that releases the seat. Reach between the seat cushion and seat back, then pull up on the lever to release the seat and lift it out.

Step 5. Find the oblong opening in the skid plate underneath the unit to locate the drain bolt, which is a 6mm Allen toward the front of this opening. Put a drain pan underneath the drain bolt, then remove the drain bolt.

NOTE: Be careful not to lose the crush washer on the drain bolt, which can stick to the unit or fall into the drain pan.

Step 6. Replace the drain bolt along with its crush washer after the oil has drained. Torque the drain bolt to 12 foot-pounds.
