How to Buy OEM Parts in the Right Color

If you have a blue ATV and a red fender for that machine arrives on your doorstep, you're  going to be a bad day. Here at Partzilla, we would hate for that to happen, so we created this quick guide on how to order OEM motorcycle and ATV parts in the right color.

Fuel tanks, fenders and other colored parts are big and can be hard to ship. Here’s what you need to know to get the right OEM color part the first time around.

How to Determine Color for Honda OEM Motorcycle & ATV Parts

Our friends over at Honda periodically prefer to speak in code. If you're buying Honda motorcycle or ATV parts, you'll see an actual color called out next to parts that only come in one color. In Example 2 below, a petcock lever is called out by color (Black). However, in Example 1 below, the fender sets are labeled as TYPE 1 and TYPE 2. Be aware of this, as these “TYPES” are different colors.

HONDA EXAMPLE 2:

Unfortunately, there is no straightforward way to tell you that “TYPE 1” is always yellow. The color that is associated with each “type” varies by model and year. So the best you can do is be aware that your particular part comes in different colors, then call a pro for assistance. Give us a call and we’ll help you determine if your motorcycle or ATV needs a Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 fender set.

Ordering Color Parts for Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki Brands

If you’re ordering an OEM part in a specific color for a Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha motorcycle or ATV, your life is going to be a lot easier. Yam, Kawi and Suzuki all list colors for their parts in a very traditional and straightforward manner. Once you click on the component (fuel tank, for example), you'll see color options with parenthesis.

Yamaha is even kind enough to show you multiple color variations when relevant. It's unlikely you'll need to make a tech call if you’re ordering colored parts for one of these brands. Just make sure your fuel tank says (RED) if your bike is red. Believe it or not, it’s pretty common for people to stop reading after “fuel tank” and end up with a black part for a red ATV!

In the next example, it's pretty straightforward what color part you'll be ordering from us from our friends at Suzuki. The part name is listed, followed by the color in parenthesis [Ex: FENDER, FRONT (GREEN)].

Need Help Finding Something?

The color of your ATV or motorcycle can say a lot about you… and an ATV or motorcycle with mismatched colors can say even more. Kind of like that old 1980s black van with the yellow door you saw parked outside the foreclosed Blockbuster video store. Don’t be that guy. Let us help you! If you’re not sure that the parts in your shopping cart are the right color for your vehicle, give us a call and we’ll double check that you’re ordering the correct parts. And while you’re on the phone, consider having a chat with a rep about oversize shipping expectations ...

Fenders and other colored parts can be very large, and sometimes require oversized shipping. This can catch people off guard if they’re first-time online buyers. It is never our intention to surprise you with any unexpected fees, so if you think you have something as big as a fender in your cart, run it by a rep and they’ll let you know if you can expect to see a second invoice for oversized shipping. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to take care of you.
