Why is My Kawasaki Vulcan Not Priming?

If your Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle isn’t priming once the key is turned on, start with the simple stuff by getting a test light or multimeter and testing the fuel pump to see if it’s working.

Partzilla’s Kawasaki motorcycle expert John Talley hosts live Q&A sessions on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern. In this session, John was asked what could be causing a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle to not prime on startup.

Kawasaki Vulcan Not Priming Q&A

I have a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan that’s not priming when the key is turned on. Any suggestions?

John Talley: Well, you’re already running in the right direction. You need to start shaking the electrical system. Start with the simplest stuff first. Put a test meter at the fuel pump itself and see if you’re reading anything, then work your way backwards. Check if the test light doesn’t light up or if the digital voltmeter tells you there’s nothing there. If there’s voltage there, then you found it. It’s probably going to be the motor itself. Replace it and go on with your day.
