How to Change Honda CRF450R Oil and Filter

Honda recommends changing the oil and oil filter on a CRF450R after every six races, or after every 15 hours of use. Luckily, an oil service on a CRF450R can typically be done in 10 minutes or less.

Watch the video above and follow the steps below to learn how to change the oil on a Honda CRF-450 motorcycle.

Step 2. Remove the oil filler cap so the crankcase can breathe, which helps the oil drain faster.

Step 3. Remove the 10mm oil drain bolt and its crush washer from the lower rear of the crankcase, and drain the old oil.

Step 4. Hold the killswitch, and turn the engine over a couple of times with the kickstarter to pump the very last drops of used oil out of the engine.

Step 5. Install a new crush washer, then reinstall the drain bolt and torque it to 12 foot-pounds.

NOTE: Never reuse the old crush washer, as it won’t seal properly. Crush washers are nexpensive Honda parts to replace, so we recommend buying several at a time due to the CRF450’s need for frequent oil changes.

Step 6. Remove the oil filter cover from the crankcase cover.

Step 7. Pry off the oil filter cover, and remove the oil filter and the filter spring.

Step 11. Replace the left engine guard.

Step 12. Refill the engine with Honda 20W-50 engine oil
