Yamaha FJR1300 Unit Spotlight

Since 2001, the Yamaha FJR1300 has been a favorite among the sport touring set. Built for the open road, the FJR1300 sports a 1298cc, 16-valve DOHC inline four cylinder that handles wide-open spaces and winding mountain roads as it navigates up and down the powerband. 

To deliver that power to the road, the FJR 1300 comes equipped with a 6-speed transmission and evenly spaced gears for sport riding, plus a tall sixth gear that offers excellent mileage on a long-distance cruise. A clean, quiet shaft drive transfers power to the rear wheel. It’s a system designed for efficiency and minimal maintenance.

With a ride-by-wire system and an array of rider aids, the FJR1300 offers precise throttle response. The YCC-T engine control system also offers capacity to support other systems like traction control, cruise control, and adjustable engine mapping. The motorcycle also features an innovative lean angle-sensitive lighting system that allows riders to see into a corner in low-light conditions. It also has creature comforts like adjustable ergonomics, a push-button adjustable windscreen, a comfortable seat for rider and passenger, and integrated hard luggage.

Aerodynamic bodywork helps the FJR1300 cut through the air cleanly, and a vent beneath in the instrument panel manages airflow to prevent buffering. The side panels are adjustable to give the ride full control of airflow over the lower body. While the bodywork manages interaction with the air, electronically adjustable suspension comes at the push of a button. There are four pre-load settings, three dampening presets, and seven more fine-tune adjustments available to get just the right ride. ABS brakes round out the package.

The FJR1300 is hung on an aluminum frame that balances stiffness and feedback, with a long rear swingarm to improve the action on the rear suspension. The seat height is 31.7 or 32.5 inches, the wheelbase is 60.8 inches, and the wet weight with 6.6 gallons of gasoline is 642 pounds.
