Changing the Oil on a Suzuki Boulevard C50
Step 1. Crank up the engine for a couple of minutes to warm the oil up, which helps it drain out easier.
Step 2. Open the oil fill cap to allow air into the crankcase, which also makes it easier to drain the oil.
Step 3. Have a drain pan ready and use a 14mm socket to remove the oil drain bolt underneath the motorcycle. Drain out the oil, then replace the drain bolt and torque it to 16.5 foot-pounds.
NOTE: The drain bolt has a crush washer on it, so make sure you don’t lose it.
Step 4. Use a 65mm oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
NOTE: Have a drain pan ready for any oil that spills out while removing the old filter.
Step 5. Smear a little oil around the new filter’s gasket with your finger to help seal the filter to the engine.
PRO TIP: This step also makes the filter easier to remove for the next oil service.
Step 6. Install the new oil filter and torque it to 14.5 foot-pounds.
Step 7. Fill the engine with 3.6 quarts of 10W-40 oil at the fill cap opening.
NOTE: We used Ecstar 10W-40 oil, but you can use a different oil as long as it’s designed for a wet clutch system.
Step 8. Replace the fill cap, run the engine for a couple of minutes to circulate the oil, and then stop the engine and check the level.
The oil level on the C50 should be on the upper end of the normal range, shown as two lines to the left of the sight glass. Top off the oil level if necessary and you’re done.
