FEARLESS PURSUIT: Scott Champion

Champion. With a last name like that, you can imagine what Scott Champion is doing with his time: chasing trophies and championships in whatever he rides. 

Motocross, Supercross, UTV racing … you name it. If it burns fuel and goes fast on dirt, he’s ridden it, or he’ll probably get around to it someday.

From a PW50 to the Pro Turbo Championship

Back in Temecula, CA, things started small. Riding was passed down to Scott. Both his dad and his uncle raced, and he started riding his Yamaha PW50 with his dad on the hills near his house. From there, it’s the familiar story of a rider with talent climbing the hill: first motocross, then Supercross, and onto side-by-side racing. 

Professional Racer on Two Wheels and Four

Scott went pro back in 2008, and for the past 10 years he’s been riding and racing along with Partzilla.com. And he’ll tell you: over his 15 years of experience there have been a lot of bumps, bruises, and breaks. 

Back in 2021, a shoulder injury had Scott Champion looking for something new, and that’s when his dad introduced him to the possibility of switching from dirt bikes to UTVs. And behind the wheel of a side-by-side, he’s shined ever since. 

Scott earned second place overall in the Mid-America Outdoors Pro Turbo championship in 2021, and finished atop the standings in ‘22.

Learning the Side-by-Side  

Despite the quick success on the Pro Turbo circuit, Scott will tell you the UTV is an entirely new learning experience. Sure, coming from motocross gives him a good eye for the fast line and a veteran’s feel for the jumps, but it’s inside the cockpit where he’s learning every day. 

The UTV is more race car than race bike, and it’s an ongoing process to learn how it works and how to get it to go faster. And when it comes to parts for the machine, Partzilla is where Scott turns to.

Scott will tell you that racing in many ways is a metaphor for life: a bad race is like a bad day. You figure out how to fix it and then press on. His no-quit, never-give-up attitude comes from the track and translates to how he lives.
