NOTE: We changed the oil in a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja EX650, but the steps are the same or similar for all Kawasaki motorcycle models.

How to Change the Oil in a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja EX650

Step 1. Run the engine on idle for a minute to warm the oil, which makes it less viscous and allows it to drain faster.

Step 2. Remove the oil fill cap from the right side of the engine, which vents the crankcase and also helps the oil drain out faster.

Step 3. Position a drain pan under the motor, then remove the 17mm oil drain bolt and crush washer from the lower left side of the engine and let the oil drain out.

Step 9. Reinstall the oil fill cap and run the engine on idle for a minute to distribute the oil within the motor.

Step 10. Shut off the engine and let it sit for 2 minutes so the oil fully settles.

Step 11. Read the oil level on the lower right side of the crankcase. The oil should be between the upper and lower markings beside the sight glass. Top off the oil if necessary and you’re done.
