Yamaha Road Star Unit Spotlight
The Road Star 1600 was a centerpiece of the Yamaha motorcycle stable from 1999 until it was discontinued in 2014. With a wide stance and classic appearance, it’s a street cruiser in the truest sense.
Over the years, consumers could choose from several variants including the Road Star Limited Edition, the Road Star Midnight Star, the Road Star MM Limited Edition, the Road Star Silverado, and the Road Star Silverado Limited Edition. Each with their own specific character, the Road Star platform also spun off other models like the MT-01, the Roadliner, Stratoliner, and Raider.
The large engine made the Road Star a favorite among custom bike builders. With a 1602cc engine for the first five model years, and then a 1670cc engine after 2004, the Road Star was equipped with plenty of muscle for the street. To complete its street look, many model years offered an “S” package with more chrome. The Road Star engine is a four-stroke, air cooled, V-twin engine. It drives a 5-speed transmission linked to a belt drive on a steel double cradle frame.
This cruiser's front end featured telescopic forks and the rear suspension employed a swinging link suspension. The whole package could produce over 60HP at 4000 RPM and roughly 999 foot-pounds of torque. Its wheelbase is just over 66 inches, with a total length is 98 inches, and the width is 43 inches. The Roadstar tips the scales at approximately 900 pounds, depending on the specific model, with a fuel capacity of 5.3 gallons.
