Yamaha ATV Blown Fuse Q&A

What happens when the starter on a Yamaha ATV keeps blowing a fuse? The problem could be the starter itself, or maybe even a short on the battery cables, and testing the starting system may be in order.

Yamaha ATV Starter Blowing Fuse

I have a Yamaha Grizzly and the starter keeps blowing the 30 amp fuse. I replaced the starter relay and still have a problem. Any ideas?

John Talley: That’s going to be one of two things. Either A., you’ve got a direct short on your battery cabling or your cable going to the starter, or it’s the starter itself. That would be my bet, that it’s going to be the starter. You can try doing a quick jump, but be careful if you do that across the solenoid. Because if it’s truly the starter and she’s completely locked up, I’ve seen screwdrivers get welded in between those two points. And they wouldn’t want to let go, and then you’re talking about a Chernobyl type of meltdown at that point.
