Suzuki GSX-R1000 Fuel Pump Test
A lack of fuel pressure will cause your Suzuki GSX-R1000's engine to bog down and prevent it from reaching its maximum RPM band. An extreme loss of fuel pressure will prevent your GSXR from running at all.
A drop in fuel pressure is often caused by either the fuel pump's filter screen becoming dirty and blocked, or the O-rings between the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator getting old and starting to leak. If you suspect your GSX-R1000 is losing fuel pressure, the first thing to do is a static fuel pump pressure test. The static test is a quick, simple method that spares you the hassle and expense of going through a full dyno test. Tools and Parts - Suzuki GSX-R1000 Fuel Pump Pressure Test
- 5mm Allen
- 3/8 ratchet and extension
- Suzuki fuel pressure tester (individual parts listed in Parts column)
NOTE: The Suzuki fuel pressure tester is made up of individual parts.
Suzuki GSX-R1000 Static Fuel Pump Pressure Test
Step 1. Remove the seat and the gas tank mounting bolt at the front of the tank. Raise the tank up and hold it in place with a screwdriver (or similar tool).
Step 2. Disconnect the fuel line from the base of the tank and the motor. Have a rag ready to catch any fuel that might spill out from the line.
Step 3. Connect the fuel pressure tester between the fuel pump and the motor, where the fuel line was.
Step 4. Turn on the GSXR's ignition and observe the reading on the pressure gauge. The fuel pressure should be 43 PSI.
Step 5. Fire up the GSXR's engine and "blip" the throttle to see if the fuel pump maintains the correct pressure.
