Why Does My Motorcycle Die on Stop?
If your Suzuki motorcycle shuts off occasionally when you come to a full stop, it could be starving for fuel, or may simply be running on a dirty air filter.
Partzilla’s Suzuki motorcycle expert John Talley hosts live Q&A sessions on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern. In this session, John was asked what could be causing a Suzuki DR650 dual sport motorcycle to shut off when it comes to a full stop.
Suzuki Motorcycle Shuts Off on Stop Q&A
I have a Suzuki DR650 and it recently started this thing where it occasionally dies when I stop. It’ll start right up on the first try when this occurs, but I’m trying to figure out what I have done. I keep going back to when I ran a tank of high test fuel through it at someone else’s suggestion. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. Any thoughts?
John Talley: Running a higher test fuel, if anything it should be better for it. So I can’t imagine that’s causing this problem. I am curious, since it is a dual sport bike, have you been off-roading with it more often than not? Because it sounds like she’s starving for either fuel or air and shutting down. So I’m wondering if maybe you need to keep it simple. Go take a look at the air filter and see if it’s caked up. I’m betting it’s going to be something as simple as that. Sometimes we ride these machines and time lapses and we forget to do the most basic things, so take a peek at that air filter.
