How to Change Honda XR70R Engine Oil

Step 1. Run the engine on idle for a minute to warm the oil, then shut it off and remove the dipstick so the crankcase can breathe properly. This helps the oil to drain efficiently.

Step 2. Position a drain pan under the engine, and remove the 17mm drain bolt and crush washer from the bottom of the crankcase. Inspect the crush washer for wear and replace it if necessary.

NOTE: The crush washer should be replaced every few oil changes regardless of what condition it’s in.

Step 3. Reinstall the crush washer and the drain bolt once the oil has completely drained, and torque the bolt to 25 foot-pounds.

Step 5. Reinstall the dipstick, then start the engine and run it on idle for 30 seconds to circulate the oil within the motor.

Step 6. Shut off the engine, and let it sit for a minute so the oil settles. This helps you get an accurate oil level reading.
