How to Change Honda XR50 Dirt Bike Oil 

A few tools and supplies and a handful of minutes is all it takes to do an oil change service on a XR50 Honda motorcycle. This junior dirt bike has no oil filter, which makes its oil change service much easier and faster.

Tools and Supplies - Honda XR50 Oil Change

• Ratchet
• 17mm socket
• Funnel
• Drain pan
• Honda GN4 10W-30 oil

Honda XR50 Dirt Bike Oil Change Steps

Step 1. Remove the oil fill cap to help the crankcase vent properly when draining the engine oil. 

Step 2. Use a 17-millimeter socket to remove the drain bolt and let the engine oil drain out. 

NOTE: Check the condition of the crush washer while the oil is draining, and replace it if it’s damaged or missing to prevent leaks.

Step 3. Reinstall the drain bolt and torque it to 18 foot-pounds.

Step 4. Fill the engine with 0.6 quarts of Honda 10W30 motorcycle oil. 

NOTE: You can use any brand of 10W-30 motor oil as long as it’s designed for a wet clutch system. 

Step 5. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to get the oil circulated through the system. Next, shut the engine off and let it sit for a few more minutes to get an accurate oil level.

Step 6. Remove the dipstick, wipe off the excess oil, then place the stick back on top of the threads and lift it back out. Check the oil level, top it off if necessary and you’re done.
