Honda Metropolitan 50 Oil Change

Scooters are great money savers, as those little 50cc engines can get over 100 miles to a gallon. They're cheap to insure, and scooter maintenance doesn’t cost much either.

Doing an oil change yourself on a scooter is about as simple as it gets as far as vehicle maintenance is concerned. Watch the video above and follow the steps below to change the oil in a Honda CHF50 Metropolitan in a matter of minutes.

How to Change the Oil in a Honda Metropolitan Scooter

Step 1. Run the engine for a minute to warm the oil, which makes it less viscous and helps it flow faster.

Step 2. Remove the dipstick, which is located on the right rear side of the engine. This helps the crankcase to vent, which also helps the oil drain faster.

Step 3. Position a drain pan beneath the scooter, and remove the 17mm drain bolt and crush washer from the lower left side of the engine, behind the stand.

Step 4. Let the oil drain out, and inspect the crush washer while you’re waiting.

NOTE: Replace the crush washer if it’s worn or hasn’t been changed out after the last few oil changes.

Step 5. Reinstall the crush washer and drain bolt, and torque it to 18 foot-pounds.

Step 6. Fill the engine with 0.6 quarts of 10W40 motorcycle oil.

Step 7. Reinstall the dipstick, and idle the engine for about 15 seconds to circulate the oil within the engine. Shut off the engine, and wait a minute for the oil to settle so you can get an accurate oil-level reading.

Step 8. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and set it back into the crankcase without screwing it in. Next, remove the dipstick again and check the oil level. Top off the oil if necessary, reinstall the dipstick and you’re done.
