How to Change Honda CBR600 Rear Brake Pads

Replacing the brake pads on a Honda motorcycle can help you get the most out of your machine. Worn brake pads can damage the brake rotor in extreme cases. 

One way to tell if you need to replace the brake pads is a grinding noise whenever you apply the brakes. Another telltale sign you need new brake pads is if there's less than 1/8 of an inch left of pad material. Replacing the Rear Brake Pads on a Honda CBR 600RR

Step 1. Remove the 8mm hanger pin that holds the two brake pads in place.

Step 2. Pull the brake pads out of the caliper once the pin is removed.

Step 3. Use a flat-blade screwdriver leveraged against the brake rotor to push the brake piston back in to make room for the new pads.

Step 4. Slide the new pads into place, lining up the holes on the pads with the holes on the caliper for the hanger pin

Step 5. Dab a little grease on the O-ring near the end of the hanger pin, then push the hanger pin through as you're pushing the new rear brake pads in to line up the holes. 

Step 6. Tighten the hanger pin to 13 foot-pounds.

Step 7. Spin the rear wheel, then pump the brakes to make them grab and you're done.
