How to Replace Honda VTX1300 Brake Pads
Changing the front and rear brake pads on a Honda motorcycle is possible with basic mechanic skills, and it’ll save you a lot of money to do it yourself.

Tools and Parts Needed – Honda VTX 1300 Brake Pads Change
- 12mm socket
- 5mm Allen
- Torque wrench
- Contact/brake cleaner
Replacing Honda VTX1300 Front Brake Pads
Step 1. Put a flat-blade screwdriver between the front brake pads and gently pry them apart.
Step 2. Remove the plug covering the brake pad pin.
Step 7. Reinstall the brake pad pin.
Step 8. Torque the brake pad pin to 13 foot-pounds.
Step 9. Reinstall the pad pin plug.
Replacing Honda VTX1300 Rear Brake Pads
Step 1. Put a flat-blade screwdriver between the rear brake pads and gently pry them apart.
Step 2. Remove the plug covering the pad pin.
Step 3. Remove the brake pad pin.
Step 4. Slide the old brake pads back out from the rear of the caliper.
Step 5. Squirt the brake caliper assembly with contact/brake cleaner to remove any dirt.
Step 6. Remove the rearward caliper mounting bolt.
Step 7. Rotate the caliper up so there’s room to install the new pads.
Step 8. Slide the new brake pads into the brake caliper from the rear.
Step 9. Rotate the caliper back down over the rotor.
Step 10. Reinstall the brake pad pin.
Step 11. Reinstall the caliper mounting bolt and torque it to 17 foot-pounds.
Step 12. Torque the brake pad pin to 13 foot-pounds.
Step 13. Reinstall the pad pin plug.
Step 14. Pump the rear brake pedal a few times to seat the new pads and you’re done.
