How to Replace Honda VTX1300 Brake Pads

  • Ratchet
  • 12mm socket
  • 5mm Allen
  • Screwdriver

How to Replace Honda VTX1300 Front Brake Pads

Step 1. Put a flat-blade screwdriver between the front brake pads and gently pry them apart.

Step 2. Remove the plug covering the brake pad pin.

Step 3. Remove the brake pad pin.

Step 4. Slide the old brake pads down and out from the bottom of the caliper, then squirt the brake caliper assembly with contact/brake cleaner to remove any dirt.

Step 5. Slide the new brake pads up and into the brake caliper from the bottom.

Step 6. Reinstall the brake pad pin.

Step 7. Torque the brake pad pin to 13 foot-pounds, then reinstall the pad pin plug.

How to Change Honda VTX1300 Rear Brake Pads

Step 1. Put a flat-blade screwdriver between the rear brake pads and gently pry them apart.

Step 2. Remove the plug covering the pad pin.

Step 3. Remove the brake pad pin.

Step 4. Slide the old brake pads back out from the rear of the caliper.

Step 5. Squirt the brake caliper assembly with contact/brake cleaner to remove any dirt.

Step 6. Remove the rearward caliper mounting bolt.

Step 7. Rotate the caliper up so there’s room to install the new pads, then slide the new brake pads into the brake caliper from the rear.

Step 8. Rotate the caliper back down over the rotor, then reinstall the brake pad pin.

Step 9. Reinstall the caliper mounting bolt and torque it to 17 foot-pounds.

Step 10. Torque the brake pad pin to 13 foot-pounds, then reinstall the pad pin plug.

Step 11. Pump the rear brake pedal a few times to seat the new pads and you’re done.
