Honda ATV Oil Change Questions
What weight of engine oil do you use on a Honda ATV? It depends on which model of course, and our Honda ATV expert John Talley weighs in on a few oil change service questions asked by our viewers.
John does live Q&A session on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern, and in this edition, several Honda ATV oil change questions came up, including recommendations for a TRX90, oil weight for a TRX420 in Israel, and how to change the oil in a Rancher 350.
Honda ATV Oil Change Service
What oil do you recommend for a Honda TRX 90?
John Talley: Standard GN-4. That’s what I would recommend. It’s a little machine that doesn’t need anything more or anything less than what it came with.

I have a brand new 2021 Honda Rancher 420 and the manual says to do an 80-90W oil change after two years, but I can only find here in Israel an 80W-85. Can I use it?
John Talley: I don’t think it’ll be a problem at all. As far as the compounding of it, make sure it matches the JASE specifications, but the weight difference shouldn’t hurt it at all. But hey, you’ve got two years to worry about that. You’ve got a brand new machine, but I like the fact that you’re actually reading through your manual and you’re going to take care of it, so kudos for that.
