Can-Am Outlander Front & Rear Diff Oil Change

To get the most out of your Can-Am ATV, change the differential oil along with the engine oil. The diff oil protects your ATV’s ability to conquer the toughest of terrain, so make sure you change it regularly.

NOTE: We worked on a Can-Am Outlander, but the process is the same or similar for most Can-Am ATV makes and models.

How to Change the Rear Diff Oil in a Can-Am Outlander

Step 1. Place a drain pan under the rear differential, then remove the 6mm fill bolt and the drain bolt from the left side of the diff housing.

Step 2. Let the old diff oil drain out, then reinstall the drain bolt and tighten it down.

Step 3. Refill the differential with 75W-140 differential oil until the oil is level with the fill hole. Use a quart pump and length of hose to pump the diff oil into the differential.

NOTE: The front and rear differentials take different weight diff oils. Make sure you’re using the correct oil for each differential.

Step 4. Reinstall the fill bolt and tighten it down.

How to Change the Front Diff Oil in a Can-Am Outlander

Step 5. Place a drain pan under the front differential, and some rags or shop towels under the drain bolt. Next, remove the 6mm fill bolt and the drain bolt from the right side of the diff housing.

Step 6. Let the old diff oil drain out, then reinstall the drain bolt and tighten it down.

Step 7. Refill the differential with 75W-90 differential oil until the oil is level with the fill hole. Use a quart pump and length of pipe to pump the diff oil into the differential.

Step 8. Reinstall the fill bolt, then tighten it down and you’re done.
