Why Won’t My ATV Start With New Battery?

Just because an ATV battery is brand new doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good. So if your ATV won’t start after you installed a new battery, the problem could be the battery itself.

Partzilla’s ATV expert John Talley hosts live Q&A sessions on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern. In this session, John was asked why would an ATV not start after it had a new battery installed.

ATV New Battery No-Start Q&A

My ATV was running fine until I replaced the battery. Now the neutral light comes on but nothing happens when I hit start, not even a click. Any ideas?

John Talley: Why did you replace the battery? Well, just because it’s a new battery doesn’t mean it’s been set up correctly, or that it’s going to be good to go out of the box. One of the only lead-acid battery manufacturers that I truly trust and I’ve never seen fail is Yuasa. Now, I’ve seen some aftermarket lead-acid batteries that were just bad out of the box. That may be what’s going on with yours. Start with the simple diagnostics. Check the voltage static and make sure it’s over 12.5, then keep diagnosing from there.
