Suzuki Motorcycle Wobbling After Brake Pads Change

What happens when a Suzuki motorcycle gets wobbly after a brake pad change? The problem could be something you would never expect to be the culprit.

Partzilla’s Suzuki motorcycle expert John Talley hosts live Q&A sessions on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern. In this edition, John sheds some light on what could be causing a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle with new front brake pads to wobble.

Why is My Suzuki Motorcycle Wobbling?

My 08 Suzuki GSXR 600 tends to wobble or lump when using the front brake. I’ve changed the brake pads but it still happens. Any thoughts on this?

John Talley: Yes. More than likely it’s not that your front rotor or rotors are warped, but over time, depending on what type of brake pads you’re running, you can get deposits of brake dust. I know it sounds crazy, but that’ll cause the front end to wobble when you’re braking and it’ll shudder. And, about the only way you can straighten that out is one of two ways. Either get … they make these different attachments for drills where you can clean off your rotors, or just replace the rotors. I mean, it depends on how much time you’re willing to spend, or rather how much money you’re willing to spend. Your rotors aren’t warped, but they have a buildup of brake pad material or dust that’s causing the pads to jump in and out. I’ve had that happen a couple of times on a track car, when I did not properly bed in the brakes. And that’s the real trick, to get an even layer of brake bedding when you first put on a new set of rotors and/or when you’re changing over to a different style or formula of brake pads. That’s more than likely what you’re running into.
