What Causes Polaris ATV Overcharging Issue?
If your Polaris Sportsman ATV has overcharging problems, the issue is more than likely the regulator rectifier. However, it could be a voltage regulator problem you can’t test.
Partzilla’s Polaris ATV expert John Talley hosts live Q&A sessions on our YouTube channel every Friday at 3pm Eastern. In this session, John was asked what could be causing a Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV to overcharge.
Polaris Sportsman ATV Overcharging Q&A
What causes the overcharging issue on a Polaris Sportsman 570?
John Talley: More than likely it’s going to be the regulator part of the regulator rectifier. When it can’t really find its bias point, or its charge point, it’ll go to the extreme for the most part. And that’s not something you can really test for. Not like on the rectification side where you can at least see half of the diodes. For the regulation side, it’s a completely different type circuit that you really can’t peer into from the outside of the unit, so to speak. But that’s typically what goes wrong with it. It’s just a circuitry they’re using to tell it how much current and voltage to send out of it.
